We missed scheduling a 15 month well check for Addy and instead checked in at 18 months (second child syndrome anyone? Oops!). She weighs 22 pounds (43rd percentile) and is 31.5 inches tall (42nd percentile) with a large head (85th percentile). She strongly dislikes doctors so she was not thrilled while we were chatting with Dr. Oie, but everything checked out well. At the end of the check, Dr. Oie offered Ads a sticker, which she forcefully declined multiple times even as she eyed it with clear interest, proving what a strong-willed little lady we are dealing with. The appointment ended with several immunizations that were obviously not enjoyable, but Addy took them bravely and recovered like a champ, calming quickly.
Aside from the physical stats and overall positive bill of health, our girl has an incredible amount of wonderful, special qualities. Some of the most notable include:
- Ads is a talking machine. After a slow start, she has turned into a parrot, repeating anything she hears and trying out new language. Most others can't understand much of what she says yet, but she's getting a larger vocabulary and clearer articulation every day. She's occasionally putting multiple words together and regularly uses the language she has as well as nonverbal communication to let us know what she wants. She's picked up a bad habit of screeching when she wants something, but we're slowly changing that to, "Help please." Her favorite word by far is, "baby" and that has become the default anytime she doesn't have the language to communicate: What do you want for dinner? "Baby!" Should we go to the park? "Baby!" What should we draw? "Baby!" Where are your socks? "Baby!" Dax is really good about giving her language, asking her questions, and talking to her rather than for her. The video shows him trying to teach her how to say "hambone" (part of a song from music class) and Addy attempting to say it correctly. She had both of us giggling and we hope you enjoy it, too!
- Along with her increase in conversation and language, Adelaide has significantly increased the amount of time she spends singing. She will sing along with us, initiate her own songs both recognizable and made up, and enjoys having music on in the background while we play so she can sing and dance along. She definitely has a love of music at this stage in her life.

- We think she has potential to be quite the little athlete. She likes to run after Dax and is legitimately pretty quick. She seems to have a second gear that she'll turn on when she's chasing him and it is hilarious to watch such a tiny being so focused. She'll kick a ball from time to time and, though she hasn't quite figured out throwing, she likes carrying balls around.
- Though her gross motor seems decent, we are especially amazed by her fine motor development. She, of course, loves everything that Dax is doing, which prompted an interest in Legos. Yes, real, tiny, choking hazard Legos. We have to watch her closely, but she'll sit for a significant amount of time pulling helmets off of Lego guys and putting them back on, or just rearranging the guys.
- Another of Adelaide's favorite things is water. Bath time is one of her top times of the day and she will adamantly say, "no" every time we tell her it's time to be done. She doesn't mind water on her face, loves dumping it on herself, splashes as much as she can, and always enjoys carefully choosing which toys she'll play with during each bath. She also loves drinking water and will regularly demand "wawee" while we play. It's adorable.
- She drinks a lot of water during the day, but does not drink a lot of milk. We could hardly get Dax to eat because he would fill up on so much milk at every meal at this age, but she is the complete opposite. She'll eat almost anything we serve and especially likes mixed vegetables and pretty much any fruit. The only foods she typically avoids are potatoes in any form and sometimes bread.
- She is getting more and more independent every day. Though we still have to watch her because she is seemingly always teething and, thus, randomly puts things in her mouth, she is often happy playing by herself. She will also help out whenever she can - clearing her cup from the table, "helping" with laundry (which usually equates to rearranging the folded piles or attempting to put on some of the clean clothes), fetching things for us, etc... She often refuses to hold our hands while walking around and definitely knows what she wants and asserts her opinions. We are both thankful to be raising such a strong girl and anxious to find out how her spunk will serve her as she grows up.
- Adelaide also has a heart for God. She enjoys reading some of her picture bibles, and regularly picks a Christmas book about Jesus birth, which she simply calls "Baby Jesus," points out Jesus anywhere she sees him, and is incredibly serious about praying at the table.
- Addy has a very distinct order of preference for the people in our family. Dax is her absolute favorite person in the world and her life seems to revolve around him - much to his delight or dismay depending on the moment. Coming in at a close second is Daddy and Mommy rounds out the top three, mostly getting attention from Ads when the other two aren't around. The other night she was trying to refuse bedtime so we were giving her the choice to get ready with Mommy or Daddy. She was turning down both and opting for the third option - Addy rules all. We jokingly offered to have Dax get her ready for bed, which she was thrilled about. Thankfully he was on board as well and it was one of the sweetest moments to see him so proud to be reading to her.

We are loving life with this curious, energetic, stubborn, spunky, intelligent, loving, and amazing little girl.
