Spring?

Last year we had snow in May so the gorgeous weather this week was such a treat and feels like an incredibly early spring. Who knows if it will stick around, but we enjoyed it as much as we could while we had the opportunity!

The heatwave started over the weekend and while it wasn't super warm yet, it was nice enough to enjoy some outside time! And Dax was thrilled to try out his new snowman kit.

We had a playdate with Isaac Monday and walked to a park near our house. We have sure missed the playground!

Then, our family enjoyed the weather Tuesday after dinner. We took a walk to another playground. (While we didn't take any photos on the walk or at the park, we had a funny family selfie photo shoot soaking up a few extra minutes of the glorious air before retreating back inside for bedtime!)

Addy and I ventured out on our own Wednesday while Dax was at daycare, plus we spotted some deer enjoying the spring weather, too! Then we had another family walk in the evening - how could we not when it was SO beautiful?!

Then, Thursday was a little cooler again but we still played and played and played - while Addy was napping, when she woke up, when they both woke up from afternoon naps... We couldn't get enough fresh air! Dax loved exploring the yard again and trying out his new trike (bad mommy forgot about his helmet while he tried it out on the driveway, but be assured he wore one when we went on a walk/trike ride later).

The nice weather continued into Friday so we went to the zoo! Dax called Grandpa Phil on Thursday and invited him to join us. Grandma Caren came along and watched Addy so we didn't have to work around her naps/eating. It was great to visit some of the outdoor animals that we have not seen since last fall! In the afternoon, Grandpa Mick and Uncle Sam came over for some more outdoor fun!

It's the weekend again and we are still riding out the sunshine and mild temperatures. We had swimming lessons and played games with Gma Amy this morning, but enjoyed another walk to the playground this afternoon. Addy played with sand for the first time and Dax built a restaurant, sent Daddy to jail, put out some imaginary fires, & was completely in his element.

Cooler weather is bound to return before the season is over and soon it will be hot again, but for now, we are loving everything.

Silly

I may be biased, but I think we have the most fun kids around. See below for some proof...

Notice Dax and Ads are both wearing necklaces
Curling his eyelashes - goofball!
A penguin at the zoo was playing with Dax.

Every day is delightful with these two sweet, silly, loveable kiddos.

Rice, Sweet Potato, & Squash, Oh my!

Addy started solid foods! We were strongly leaning toward trying Baby Led Weaning this time around. It seemed to make sense that she would learn to chew and swallow simultaneously, plus it sounded kind of fun to let her explore new foods. It is recommended to wait until 6 months to ensure babies are ready for solids, but Addy was clearly interested in food every time we ate and would literally pull our forks toward her mouth. Thus, we figured we'd give it a try with a steamed stick of sweet potato.

After ignoring it for awhile, she spied it, snatched it, and completely destroyed it in her little fist. Then she gave us a disgusted look and dropped it on her tray and the floor. It was literally the only thing she touched that day that did not end up in her mouth. While it was an unsuccessful attempt at solid foods, we all had a good laugh over it.

We tried a sweet potato stick again the following day with just as little success and made an executive decision to puree the rest of the potato, start with some rice cereal, and add in some "real" foods soon as a traditional/Baby Led Weaning hybrid. Addy ate the rice cereal like a champ!

A few days later, we added in some of the sweet potato puree. She gets a bit handsy and manages to make a decent mess even with us feeding her, but we all enjoy this new stage.

So far she has eaten and enjoyed sweet potato and butternut squash. Next up will be avocado and peas so we'll see what she thinks of those!
