Fast times at Skyline Drive

Dentist

Dax had his first dentist visit! Though we intended to bring him in for his first time a bit younger, it ended up being a wonderful first experience and I think part of that is due to his age and understanding of what would happen. After spending lots of time playing dentist leading up to the big day, Dax sailed through the appointment. He hopped right up in the chair, listened intently as his hygienist, Krista, told him about each of the tools, followed all of her requests and happily opened his mouth for the dentist as well. He got his teeth cleaned, flossed, checked, and fluoride painted on. Addy was a relatively calm observer and helped to make it a positive experience for all involved!

We could not be more proud of our big boy! And he could not be more thrilled to have his own floss, a new toothbrush, and a new little stuffed horse (named "Teeth" of course!).

Sick :(

Poor Ads missed out on the Family Night fun because she was home sick. She started out with a fever and had to stay home from daycare. The fever was hanging on, but she was in pretty good spirits.

After learning from the pediatrician's nurse line that a high fever virus was going around, we were watching her closely, but just trying to wait it out. Then, as we were going to bed Saturday night of that weekend, Adelaide woke up sad. Jake went to check on her and when he took her temperature it varied a bit, but he was getting readings over 105 and even one 106.1. Yikes! We called the nurse line again (remember, we were waiting out a "high fever virus") and this time they suggested taking her in, especially since the dose of tylenol we had given her wasn't bringing the fever down much.

So, Addy and I bundled up and headed over to the ER to find out what was going on with our sweet girl. Thankfully, Fairview Ridges has a lovely pediatric unit with wonderful staff. Unfortunately, Adelaide didn't care about that and was simply a tired, sick, not thrilled with doctors in general and definitely not loving them in the middle of the night, toddler.

They tested for influenza (Ads HATED that test), which came back negative. Since she didn't have other symptoms, the doctor's other thought was a bladder infection. Our squarely in diapers girl was not excited about sitting on a potty, especially in the middle of the night, but we gave it a valiant effort in hopes of avoiding a catheter.

Ultimately, though, we couldn't get a sample the "easy" way and we had to go the catheter route. Again Addy hated the test (who wouldn't?!), but she calmed fairly quickly afterwards and was able to get a little sleep. Though I would have preferred to be home, I couldn't help but relish the snuggles from my independent gal.

That test ended up coming back negative as well and we went home around 2 AM with a diagnosis of a high fever virus and mild dehydration due to the fever. Ugh! Even more frustrating - Addy woke up the next morning with no fever of course.

Though the timing was terrible and it was a somewhat unnecessary ER visit given the diagnosis, we would do it again and checked the parenting box of ER visit during toddlerhood.

Outside In

Dax's preschool had a family night and it was SO fun! The theme was "Inside Out, Outside In" and each classroom had a different outdoor theme. Dax's favorite was the Hot Cocoa Chalet, of course.

Oh the weather outside is frightful...

And then it was so delightful! It has been a strange few weeks - severely cold, a couple of noticeable snowfalls, and then a taste of an early spring. We've tried to enjoy all of it!
