Hiding

While I was cleaning up the dishes from breakfast, this happened...

Dax: "Mommy, Addy is hiding!"
Me: "She's on her playmat, isn't she?"
Dax: "Yeah. I put the elephant blanket on her."
Me: "Did you cover her face?"
Dax: "Yep!"

I quickly walked into the other room to uncover her and found this:

 

She was just happily talking and playing under there. So funny!

Daycare

Adelaide and I both survived her first day at daycare! There were a few tears after dropping her off, but we adore our provider, Denise, and I knew they would have a good day. I got a few pictures throughout the day and Addy's huge smile made it easier. It also didn't hurt that Dax was SO excited to have his sister staying with him. Overall, it could not have gone better.

Well

We completed Dax's 3 year well check at the same time as Addy's four month and we could not be more proud of our big boy. There will be a detailed post about him coming soon in honor of his birthday, but I have to brag a little early.

As always, the appointment started with height and weight checks. He is 29.2 pounds (25th percentile) and 37 1/2 inches tall (56th percentile).

Next he had his first blood pressure check. We told him it would feel like a hug on his arm and he was such a champ! Later he even said that was his favorite part of the appointment.

After that, they tested his hearing. The nurse warned us that most three-year-olds do not understand this test and then explained to Dax that he should say beep whenever he hears the beep in his ear. He did awesome!! He immediately responded to the beeps in both ears and the nurse was so impressed she asked us when he had turned three. When she realized that he's not even quite there, she was shocked. Way to go buddy! (Of course we were also thrilled that he passed the hearing test!)

The last new thing was an eye test. At Addy's last appointment Dr. Oie warned us that he would be doing it so we practiced a couple times at home while we played doctor, but it's always different in the room. The nurse was again impressed when Dax knew the letters on the chart versus just pointing to the one that matched and he passed both eyes with flying colors. Hooray!

Once we met with Dr. Oie, she checked him out and sent us home beaming with pride about our healthy, amazing boy.

4 months

Where did the last month go?! As unbelievable as it seems, our little Adelaide is 4 months old now. We recently rotated her wardrobe to phase out her 3 month clothes that were getting too small. At her well check we found out that she is 12 pounds, 14 ounces (20th percentile) and 24 inches long (26th percentile) with a 16 inch head (48th percentile). Dr. Oie said she was perfect and we could not agree more!

Addy changes daily, but remains incredibly happy and go-with-the-flow. She has yummy chunky baby thighs, a smile that continues to melt our hearts every single time she flashes it, and big eyes that are still a beautiful blue.

She brings out the sweetest side of Dax and genuinely adores her big brother. He tells us often how much he loves her, while she watches him like a hawk and saves her biggest smiles for him.

Our little girl is incredibly strong. She is a champ at tummy time recently and is SO close to rolling over - she can get up onto her side, but has not yet completed the rotation. (see previous post... she did it right after turning four months!) Sometimes when she is laying flat on her back she will lift her head and try to sit up. Although she is pretty much happy anywhere, Adelaide still seems to prefer standing to those other positions.

Addy is also making progress in the sleep department. She has formed a loose schedule for naps and does a pretty good job putting herself to sleep when we lay her down drowsy. Sometimes it takes a little while, but she enjoys her crib and puts herself to sleep babbling. She continues to break out of her swaddle, but when we tried using something else (a zipadee-zip), she spent almost an hour kicking her legs, flailing her arms, and wiggling until finally falling asleep after we switched it out for her old swaddle sack. Someday we'll try again.

She is more interactive all the time and even reached out to "play" with one of her toys during tummy time the other day. Addy also talks all day long. She babbles when we're talking to her, when she's laying on her play mat, falling asleep in her crib, waking up in her crib, and in between. Although almost unbelievable at four months, she has said something that sounds very much like "hi" multiple times after we have greeted her. It's so fun to see her personality starting to come out and we can't wait to understand all those babbles.

Her new-found social attitude inspired us to bring the high chair back upstairs. She's not eating food yet, but sits up with us during meals. She does not love it, however, we enjoy having meals as a family and hope this starts getting her used to it for when she will be using it to eat.

Firsts this month include Christmas, the new year, a visit to Sea Life Aquarium, and playing outside in the snow. Adelaide also spent her first day away from Mommy. I am working very part-time for North Central University as a supervisor for several student teachers and spent my first day observing them. She has spent short periods of time with a babysitter (so I could go to the library with Dax, Jake's work Christmas party, etc...), but this was a longer period of time. Dax and Addy spent the day with Grandma and Grandpa Olson and we all survived with very little anxiety. (Send some good thoughts on Wednesday because it will be my second day working and this time Ads will be going to daycare with Dax!)

Roller

Addy rolled over! The day after she turned four months old (4 month post coming after her visit to Dr. Oie tomorrow!) she finally completed it. Her arm was getting in her way as she rolled up onto her side so I helped her out. I kept flipping her back to her tummy and she did it 3 more times unassisted. She makes it look so easy!

Winter Fun

I have said it before, but I am so grateful to have this school year with Dax and Addy. Every day is an adventure and, though we get a bit stir crazy from time to time, we find lots to do. Here's a peek at a few of the things we have been up to lately...
