I asked Dax what was notable about his sister right now and he told me two things:
1. "She just yell laughs." Truth. This girl loves to squeal/scream. She is so full of joy and simply explodes with happiness, especially when she's around her brother. There is nothing better.
2. "Addy needs to discover the world. The really beautiful world." (Side note: though he can be just plain silly, Dax has moments like this when he is such an insightful, intelligent old soul. Love him!!) Adelaide is all about discovering the world right now. She finally figured out crawling - well, kind of - and gets around well. She most definitely does not stay where we put her, but explores everything around her.
Most things still go in her mouth, but her play is becoming more sophisticated. She still likes to put toys into and out of containers, but will also test toys in other ways. Though she seems especially drawn to books lately, she is not picky about what she plays with and finds interesting ways to manipulate anything we give her. She recently found our instruments and is thrilled making noise with any of them. She is especially intrigued by the drums.
Addy is also getting closer to walking. She fully figured out the walker and cruises around our dining room at full speed. She also pulls herself up onto anything that is off the ground (literally anything - stools, couches, people, toys - if it is elevated even a few inches, she will use it to get herself up from sitting), has started to walk along the edges of things, and happily stands and walks around with a little support from us. She stood without support for several seconds a couple of times and has pulled herself to standing in her crib. Addy's biggest accomplishment this month was probably figuring out how to crawl up the stairs.
She is a pretty independent little thing and has started asserting her opinions throughout the day. This is especially apparent at meals as she definitely lets us know when she wants something. She is starting to show a preference for anything that isn't green and has also started resisting pureed food because she wants to do it herself. Sometimes she'll feed herself puree from a pouch and one time we gave her a bowl and spoon when she was really fighting us (she's not ready for that yet - see below!). We are working on signs for "more" and "all done" since she does not have language to tell us what she wants and she's starting to pick them up.
The few words we know in baby sign language should give her a little better ability to communicate, but Addy is working on learning words, too. She babbles a lot and consistently says (we think) Dax, all done, hi, Mama, Dada, bye bye, ooh. Ok, so "ooh" isn't technically a word, but it's a great exclamation and such a perfect way for our curious girl to share her energy. She also growls when we ask her what a bear says and will sometimes baa when playing with a sheep.
Adelaide is full of personality, both go-with-the-flow and a little stubborn, loving (baby kisses are THE BEST!), and interested in her world. We are so incredibly blessed to be her parents.
She's getting so big:
