Birthday Boy

We celebrated Dax's first birthday this weekend. I relied on Pinterest for much of the party-planning and tried a few ideas with some success. It was a fun, low-key party with many of the people who are most special to us. Most importantly, Dax enjoyed himself and is heading into his second year with new toys, clothes, and lots of love!

Although we didn't have a theme, we focused on bright and birthday in our decorations. I made a banner with his monthly photos:

Made a rainbow spread of food:

And cooled the drinks with ice balloons. They were supposed to add to the birthday ambiance, looking something like this:

But, while the water stayed cold, our version was less successfull:

Dax got his first taste of dessert when we served his cake. He was hesitant at first, but eventually tasted the frosting. He spit out the cake and ice cream, but enjoyed eating all of the frosting balloons off the top.

He also had fun opening all of his presents and wanted to play with each new thing as he saw it. A day later, he is loving life with so many fun books and toys. It is pure joy to see his excitement as he explores each thing.

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it and to those who were not here to celebrate with us, but who care about our sweet little boy. We could not have survived this first year without the support of all of our friends and family. We are blessed.
