6 Months

Where did the last 1/2 year go?! Time is flying and Adelaide is changing constantly. A couple weeks ago we had to move the straps up in her car seat because she was getting so big. Well, she seems big to us. Turns out she's still kind of a peanut! She is now 14 pounds, 10 ounces (21st percentile), 27 3/4 inches tall (10th percentile), with a 17 inch head (72 percentile).

We were a little surprised she's still so small because she's such a good eater! She LOVES having solid foods at meals with us. Part of it seems to be the social experience of having something to do while we eat, but she also gobbles up everything we serve her. So far she has had both rice and oatmeal cereal, sweet potato, squash, avocado, and peas. The other day we also gave her part of a banana to gnaw on while we ate. She got it to her mouth (because EVERYTHING goes in her mouth - we used to think that was true, but it is even more so now!), made a funny face and pulled it away. She almost immediately realized that she enjoyed it and tried again. She quickly got some little pieces off and started to gag a bit. She did not seem to be ready for the texture, but will be thrilled to add banana to her rotation of pureed foods.

She is also developing her gross motor skills. We started swimming lessons with both kids, which is a blast! Ads doesn't really follow directions, but she is comfortable in the water and willingly floats on her tummy or back.

At home, she has started to use her jumper for it's intended purpose - to jump! She still likes playing with the toys, but spends most of her time in it bouncing.

But her biggest change is that she's sitting up! Previously, she would go stiff as a board if we tried to have her sit with us. She slowly warmed to the position and sat for short periods with a little bit of support. She quickly built up her stamina for sitting with us and transitioned to doing it independently. She is already gaining some balance and self-correcting as she sways, but we still watch her closely because she falls over pretty easily. She loves having a little more control over her environment, though!

That environment has recently expanded as the weather has warmed a bit. We stayed inside most of the winter, but she enjoyed looking out the window. Now that we have been out more, she has been completely enthralled with the blue sky, wind in the trees, cars driving by, sand on the playground, and anything else that catches her eye.

She has also started hugging us and it is so sweet. It is typically when she wakes up and comes out of her crib. When we pick her up and snuggle her a bit, she nuzzles her head in, puts her arms up on our shoulders, and holds on tight. There's no better feeling than baby snuggles!

One thing that hasn't changed is Addy's favorite person. You guessed it; she continues to adore her big brother. She would touch him constantly if he stayed close enough and he's starting to learn to keep his distance if he doesn't want to get swatted, pinched, or scratched by his little sister desperately interacting with him.

The only bummer this month was Adelaide's first sick visit to the doctor. We had a nasty cold making the rounds in our house and Ads had been fighting it for several days. She woke up very unhappy from her afternoon nap. She spent the next several hours either sleeping in my arms or crying. We decided to take her in and found that the poor sweetie had a double ear infection. Thankfully, the antibiotics provided her with some relief pretty quickly.
