Firsts

When we were in the hospital we asked about lotion for Dax's dry skin. One of the nurses assured us that his was not bad, but also pointed out that they try not to introduce too many new things to brand new babies. It was a good reminder that EVERY sound, smell, touch, sight, etc... is new to the little guy. It is amazing to think about how much our little sweetie has already been exposed to and that conversation made us more conscious of what we do with him. We are also more aware of the firsts in his life. Here are a few of the firsts from this week...

Dax got diaper rash :( Poor guy has such a red bottom and we are doing what we can to soothe it. Our pediatrician suggested giving him time to air out. Well, in the last post I talked about how much he hates tummy time, but I figured that would be the safest way to let him air out without creating a large "splash zone" around him. Thus, we have had some naked tummy time. Although it is not consistent, he seems to be much more content to lay on his belly without a diaper. He doesn't yet lift his head up, but will crawl with his legs and scoots himself all around the towel. It is so funny and such a relief to find a way to make tummy time a little more peaceful.

Dax has also had some play dates this week. We know quite a few people with babies and young children and we are excited for him to grow up becoming good friends with the little ones of our good friends. So far Dax has met his 10 week old friend Cara, his 6 month old friend Chloe, and his 1 1/2 week old friend Anora.

It was so weird that Dax looked big compared to his new little friend Anora!

Mommy and daddy are also learning new things. My friend Kathy was over and asked why I wasn't using the Boppy for nursing. There wasn't a good answer - Dax was just small enough that I hadn't thought about it, but she helped me to realize that soon it will be exhausting to hold him up. What a breakthrough! It is so much easier and I think the little guy is more comfortable as well. Thanks for the motivation Kathy!

Milk coma

We're getting better at surviving our new life at home and have also ventured out of the house a few more times in the past week. Today was gorgeous outside (considering it's February in MN) and we decided to get out and take the little man for a walk. He didn't seem to like the sun in his eyes, but was happy for the most part and we loved getting some fresh air and using our stroller for the first time. We also couldn't resist snapping some pictures of our little cutie's first ride!
