Pediatrician Visits

I think I need to add the pediatrician's phone number to my speed dial!  Dax was slightly jaundiced after birth so we were told to make an appointment for the day following our trek home from the hospital to check on how he was doing. His bilirubin number was slightly up from how he measured at the hospital, but it wasn't too concerning so they recommended we come back in a couple of days to check again.

So sleepy after his first check-up
On our second visit, we were told to strip him down to just a dry diaper.  Key word: dry.  As Jake and I were laughing about that specification and I was explaining to Dax that he probably wouldn't like this very much because they were going to poke him, but that it would be over soon, he completely filled his diaper!  We like to think it was his way of prolonging the inevitable and exerting his power over what he would be doing.  While it did delay the process slightly, we found that he had gained some weight and his bilirubin was going down so there was no longer a concern at all.  We just needed to make a two-week well check appointment.

Monday we ventured back to visit Dr. Oie again - thank goodness we found a pediatrician that's close to home!  Dax measured in the 50-75th percentile for height, 50th percentile for head circumference, and 25th percentile for weight at 7lbs 10 1/2oz.  He was such a trooper and we were thrilled that he was continuing to gain weight thanks to his good eating.  Way to go buddy!  Since he's not quite up to birth weight, we will be heading back to the doctor next week, but hopefully the visits will slow down after that and we will only be back for the regularly scheduled well checks!
